If you would like to continue working as a freelancer at WorkGenius after finishing your studies, create a new account as a freelancer and state your student account as a reference.
Yes. Though we wouldn’t like to see you go, this is, of course, possible at any time. You can easily deactivate your account in your profile. Please note that for legal reasons we have to keep certain data even after the deactivation of your account.
At WorkGenius, it important to us that all our 350,000 Geniuses have access to the same fair conditions. Therefore, we have decided to block Genius accounts if our technology detects a breach of the rules. This includes not meeting two deadlines within half a year or one person working with two profiles. Furthermore, we reserve the right to block your account if we consider your conduct contrary to the values we advocate.
Yes. We will be happy if you decide to reactivate your account. Simply contact our support team. If your account has been blocked due to several missed deadlines and you can’t understand this decision, please contact our support team. If your rating falls below 1.0 due to unsatisfactory results, it is no longer possible to reactivate your account.
You can easily change your personal data in the editing function of your profile. If your Hyperwallet account is already activated, your data will automatically be transferred to the payout platform.

We work with a payout platform called Hyperwallet. When a certain project is accepted by us, the corresponding amount is credited to your Hyperwallet account. You can then transfer the money from Hyperwallet to your private account, the same way you would with PayPal. You should receive the money in your account within 48 hours.
Your first project on WorkGenius must be approved before you can register on Hyperwallet. For this purpose, you should need some personal documents. To verify your identity, keep your identity card (or passport with an official letter from a public authority), a bank statement or an official invoice (not older than three months) at hand. You will then find more detailed information in your Hyperwallet profile.
At first glance, it looks a lot, but actually, it’s just two different documents. One serves to confirm your identity and the other one to verify your address. These steps are for your own safety: We don’t want any tricksters messing with your money.
To send a payment request to a customer, they must first activate you for it. As soon as this is done, you will find the field “Payment request” at the top of your account. There, you can create new payment requests, check the status of open requests, and view old ones.
The “Payment request” feature is particularly useful for orders that run over a more extended period. It replaces the cumbersome listing of your hours in a sheet, as you can simply enter them here clearly arranged. It also allows you to send notes and attachments to your customer.
Your hourly rate is entered by your customer when they activate the feature for you. Should there be any discrepancies with the agreed hourly rate, please contact your customer or our support team immediately.
No. You can start recording and saving your hours in the feature. When you have registered all the hours for the agreed period, you can send them to your client for review.
Book a Genius
As the name suggests, Book a Genius enables a client to book your time and expertise. This is especially useful for large-scale projects that require continuous contact between you and your client.
Some typical fields of this are programming and software development. However, this feature is also perfect for carrying out extensive SEO analyses of a website with a subsequent discussion of the measures to be taken.
To work with you, the client creates a short project description, defines a time frame in which they want to start and the specific time they want to book you. As soon as the client’s request is sent out, you choose the actual start date within the suggested time frame. You’re then both given access to your shared workspace, and are ready to go. You can now actively exchange ideas with the client and work together on their project. Notice you need more time than initially planned? No problem! The client can ask you to extend your collaboration at any time. When your allocated time is over, the client confirms the payment, provides you with a short feedback, and you receive your payment. Currently, you can receive a Book a Genius request from all clients you’ve already worked for. In the nearest future, you will also have the opportunity to receive requests from new clients.
If you’ve received a Book a Genius request, it means that your client would like to work with you for one day or more. In his request, you can see what the project is exactly about and how long it is scheduled for. By accepting the request, you get access to your common workspace in which you can exchange ideas about the project. Please make sure that you are available for the requested time frame.
If you notice that you don’t have time during the requested time frame, or if you can’t confirm the request for other reasons, it won’t affect your rating. Of course, if you reject the client several times, the likelihood of receiving further requests decreases.
You should always check your availability for the suggested time frame before confirming a Book a Genius request. In case something unexpected was to come up, you can communicate this to your client or contact the WorkGenius support team.
You should always check beforehand whether you have enough time to complete the project. Our clients are usually dependent on project deadlines, which is why it is problematic if you postpone the result and ask for more time. Of course, something urgent may come up. If this is the case, we advise you to send the customer a partial result.
We understand if you are ill and cannot work. Since our clients are usually dependent on deadlines for their projects, though, a partial result would be helpful here. Furthermore, you can ask the client for more time. Bear in mind that the client has the right to refuse your request.
When deciding to take on a project, several factors should play a role. Ask yourself the following questions before accepting it:
- Do I have enough time to complete it?

- Do I have a stable internet connection?

Usually, it doesn’t take longer than two weeks for a project to be accepted, although experience tells us it takes a maximum of seven days. Sometimes, however, it happens that the customer must first have more complex projects checked internally. This can lead to occasional delays.
Rereading the briefing carefully should allow you to answer your questions. If you find that the briefing is not detailed or informative enough for you to complete the project, please contact our support team.
Yes. If something comes up unexpectedly or you can’t take on the project for some other reason, you can withdraw from it within the first 15 minutes. This will not affect your rating. If you don’t withdraw and end up not submitting a result, this will harm your rating.
We suggest you read the briefing carefully to get the most out of your work. If the client nevertheless rejects your result and waives the transmission rights, the project will fall through. As a result, your rating will decrease.
Since the customer has to work with the result, the decision to accept the result, to request a revision, or to reject the result is up to them.
The client only acquires the rights to your work results if they accept them. In the rarest of cases, clients infringe our rules. If this happens, we will take legal action to clarify the matter in your interest.
Skills & Rating
Yes. We appreciate the many talents of our Geniuses, especially when they speak multiple languages. Therefore, there is the possibility to take a language test on the platform so that you have access to many more projects.
If you miss a deadline, the project falls through, and we match it with another Genius. Two missed deadlines within six months are considered an infringement. If this is the case, your account will be suspended for six months.
There may be two reasons why you can’t find suitable projects from time to time. Make sure your profile and skills are duly completed. The more detailed your skills, the higher the probability of landing a project. Our platform is also dependent on the current order situation, so it may happen that we do not have suitable projects for you. When this is the case, just try again at a later time.
The more projects you complete successfully, and with a good rating, the higher your overall rating will be. A higher rating also gives you access to the best-paying projects.
Yes. The higher the quality, the better. After every successfully completed project, your results will be checked for quality, speed, and general client satisfaction. With every successfully completed project, your rating increases, whereas missed deadlines, insufficient work results, or rejected projects decrease your rating.
Your account rating takes other points into account, such as the complexity of the completed projects. Your project rating is calculated from the ratings you have received for successful projects. No other factors play a role here.
At WorkGenius, your talent comes first. The customer doesn’t know the freelancers’ names nor what they look like. We cherish the anonymity of both parties.
Detailed and informative briefings usually make it unnecessary to get in touch with the client. In urgent cases, contact our support team who will be happy to assist you with your request. Only in exceptional circumstances should you submit a message to the client as a result.
No. You cannot share an account with several departments. That’s why we’ve developed the Shared Wallet, so you’re able to use the same budget with many users. This allows you to split your Credits from your Main Wallet into several small ones. You can share these with other users so you can use a joint budget.

Your Spending Power is the sum of your Credits plus your Credit Line.

Your Credit Line is your granted “credit line”. This way, you can still post projects even when you don’t have enough credits. If you use the Credit Line, you will receive an invoice at the end of each month with all successfully created projects.
If your project isn’t successful, you will get the costs back within 48 hours. They will always be refunded via the selected payment method.

The “Payment request” feature is particularly useful if you want to pay freelancers who work with you over a longer period. As soon as you allow your freelancer to send you a payment request, they can record their hours and then release them for review. In addition to the hours’ overview, the freelancer can also send you documents and notes.
To activate a freelancer for the “Payment request” feature, go to the detailed view of your freelancer in your account under “Workforce.” There, you can enter the agreed hourly rate and activate and deactivate the authorization for payment requests.

You agree in advance how often your freelancer is supposed to send you their hours worked. Many of our customers decide on a 1-2 week period.
You can remove invited users from a Wallet you created at any time.

In each Wallet, there’s an activity list that, as the name implies, gives you an overview of all activities.
As soon as your project is in the shopping cart, you can choose whether you want to pay for it with Credits from your Main Wallet or another one. There you can also post projects using Credits from Wallets that have been shared with you.
Shared Wallets allow you to share your Credits with other users. This way, they can be used by several departments at the same time and you always have an overview of what the Credits you have made available are used for.
You can create other Wallets besides your main one. This way, you have the possibility to, e.g., parcel out your Credits according to projects, always keeping an overview of your budget.

Book a Genius
As the name already suggests, Book a Genius allows you to book a Genius’s time and expertise. This is especially useful when working on large-scale projects and regular communication with your freelancer is key, naming programming, software development and the like. This new feature is also suitable for carrying out comprehensive SEO analyses of your website.
To work with a Genius, you create a short project description and select an expert. You then define the time frame in which you wish to start and specify the actual booking period. After your request has been sent out, your Genius chooses the actual starting point within your suggested time frame. Then, you are both given access to your shared workspace where you can give further instructions, exchange ideas with your Genius and work together on your project.
What if you need more time than you initially allocated? No problem! You can ask your Genius to extend your cooperation. After having completed your project, just confirm your Genius’s payment, provide a brief feedback, and go on to your next project. Any more questions? Need further assistance? When creating a regular project, you usually define your expectations within a briefing giving clear tasks and communicating success criteria. Your Genius then works on the job and submits a result. Further exchange between you and your Genius is limited and usually not even necessary. With Book a Genius, you can commission more complex projects and have unlimited communication with your Genius. Book a Genius was created for projects that do not necessarily produce results you can simply upload. You book an expert’s time and knowledge. The outcome is totally up to you.
There are hardly any limits to your projects with Book a Genius. Some examples of possible fields of this are programming and software development, along with conducting comprehensive SEO analyses on your website and further discussions of measures to be taken.
You can narrow down the time frame to one day. But keep in mind that it’s much more likely that your Genius will be available if you offer a more flexible start date.
Weekends are excluded from working days, but this doesn’t apply to public holidays.
Does Book a Genius demand bookings for several days in a row? What if I want regular support on, let’s say, Tuesdays?
As for now, you can only book your Genius for a specific time span. However, we are currently working on enabling you to split requests for longer periods of time.
What if I need a Genius for a couple of hours only? Is it still necessary to book a whole day then?
Currently, you can only book a Genius for whole days (8 hours). In the nearest future, it will be possible to book a Genius on an hourly basis.
Currently, you can only hire Geniuses who are part of your workforce, i.e. those you’ve already worked with in the past. But it will also be possible later to send requests to other freelancers as well. If you ever want to book a freelancer who isn’t part of your workforce, please contact our WorkGenius support team or your personal contact.
I would like to add a few more days to my Genius booking. Is it possible to extend the time I have booked?
Yes. If the time you’ve booked is not enough, you can ask your Genius to extend your working hours together.
As long as your request has not been accepted by your Genius, you are entitled to withdrawing it again. You are also free to end your collaboration early, but keep in mind that you still have to compensate the days already executed.
The title should contain topic, length, and task. The more appealing the title, the likelier the Genius is to take the project. See this example: “Translation blog post DE-EN, 600 words about sailing”.
Translations can be very complex projects, so it is important that you think about different questions in advance. You should also use these as orientation for your briefing. How many words should be translated? At what level should you translate? How flexible can the translation be? Which criteria are decisive for me to classify the translation as successful? Please note that it does not always make sense to request a 1:1 translation, as it can negatively affect the reading flow.
Ask yourself the following questions and consider them when creating your briefing: What is the text for? Which criteria are decisive for me to consider the project successful? In what tonality should the job be written? Which target group should the text appeal to? Do I have keywords that should be integrated and if so, how often? During data entry, information is usually transferred from one source to another. This means a lot of hard work. In order to support the Genius as best as possible, please consider in advance whether they need access to a particular system.
Surveys make sense if, for example, you need different opinions on a topic in the course of market research. In advance, you should consider how many questions are to be asked, which answers are to be answered freely or according to the multiple-choice principle, and which target group should participate in your survey.
For a graphic design project, answer the following questions in advance:
- Do I have a source file?
- If so, what’s its quality?
- Is the result for print or digital?
- What resolution do I expect?
- Do I have any examples that can be used as guidelines?
For a programming project, answer the following questions in advance:
- Can the tasks be completed without further questions?
- What does the digital result that is to be submitted look like?
- In which language should it be done?
Tonality describes the style in which the text is to be written. It determines, for example, whether a text should be written formally or informally, which target group it addresses, how modern or factual the style should be, whether there is a certain message a company wants to bring forth, and how old the target group of the text is.
We want you to be able to concentrate on the essential part and not spend too much time managing your jobs. That’s why you can save all your projects as templates, so you don’t have to start from scratch every time. If you’re familiar with Excel, it’s even easier: you can also use bulk upload to create the same job with different specifications.
With some projects, it can happen that one cannot estimate in advance how much working time is required. In this case, you can choose a flexible remuneration. You then specify a maximum budget for this project. When your Genius submits their result, they have to indicate how long they’ve worked on it. They cannot exceed your maximum budget. As soon as the Genius submits the result and the number of hours, you can check the plausibility of this data. If the Genius has repeatedly made inconclusive statements about their working hours in previous projects, you will receive a message telling you to review the time carefully. Geniuses who repeatedly give false information about their working hours will be excluded from WorkGenius.
To make it much easier for you to keep track, you can bundle your individual projects in folders. For example, do you have many translation projects, but are afraid to mix them up with research jobs? You can easily avoid this by creating a separate folder for both categories.
When it comes to your project, there are no limits, so you have the opportunity to get your results in many formats.
Even though we’re convinced of the quality of our freelancers’ work, it can happen that you are not satisfied with a certain result despite having written a detailed briefing. First of all, you should submit a revision and write intelligible, constructive feedback. Your Genius will then have the opportunity to revise the project. If you are still not satisfied with the revision, you can reject the project stating a reason. We ask you only to choose this option if there is a good reason for doing so. Our Geniuses invest a lot of time and effort in their work. An unjustified rejection of a project can lead to exclusion from WorkGenius.
A revision serves to give the Genius the opportunity to successfully complete the project and get you a suitable result. Constructive feedback and a realistic deadline are essential for a successful revision. A revision is not intended to require additional work.

The invoiced working time calculates the total cost of the project. Depending on the effort required for the job, we will suggest a billed working time. The total working time is the amount of time a Genius has available to do the job. The deadline determines the time the project stays on the platform. If your project is accepted and not successful, it is returned to the platform within the deadline and can therefore be matched again.
There can be different reasons why your project will not be accepted. We recommend that you take another close look at your briefing and check whether it is informative and detailed enough, whether all attachments are available and whether the project title is attractive. It is also important to us and to the Geniuses that they work under fair conditions, so please also check that the remuneration is reasonable and that the processing time is sufficient.
No. We only provide the services of the freelancers.
Not every project is the same and can be more complex. That’s why our Geniuses have different levels of experience between which you can choose. The work experience of the freelancers also increases from junior to senior. Note that a higher experience level also means that the remuneration increases. It is important to us that the Geniuses’ talent gets fairly remunerated.
The technology we use makes the use of applications completely unnecessary. The only thing you have to do is create a detailed and informative briefing. Your project will then be matched to the right Genius.
The early bird catches the worm. The fastest Genius to accept the project can start working on it right away. You can also have the project done by another Genius if you have it saved as a template. Don’t forget to mention in your briefing that the project can only be done if it has not been done before.
Even if we are convinced that our 350,000 Geniuses do a good job, sometimes trust does not come about overnight. That’s why you always have the opportunity to invite a freelancer, with whom you may already be working, to our platform. Just enter their email address under BYOF (Bring your own Freelancer) and assign a project to your freelancer. This saves you a lot of administration work, because we take over the complete administration.
If your project has not yet been successfully completed, but there is still time within the deadline to complete it, it will be matched again.
